Barrel Face
• Increased sealing
• Reduces time for rings to seat
• Available with either moly, chrome, or triple chrome coatings
• Available in iron and steel
• Most common top ring profile in gas engines
Torsional
• Increased side sealing
• Better oil control
• May have barrel or straight face
• Available with moly or chrome coating
• Available in cast iron or steel
Full/Half Keystone
• Primarily used in diesel applications
• Tapered cross section prevents carbonbuild up and ring sticking,
and creates additional surface area for side load bearing
• Available in torsional designs for better side sealing and oil control
• Usually chrome plated for extended service life
Nitride
• Hard, wear resistant, and low friction
• Hardens all outer surfaces of the ring for increased wear resistance
• More environmentally friendly than chrome plating
• Can be used to harden Flex-Vent expanders
