LOCATIONS TO CHECK FOR EXTERNAL OIL LEAKS Back

A - Valve cover gasket - bent or distorted cover flange - loose valve cover bolts.

B - Fuel pump and gasket - cracked pump flange - pump loose at mounting surface.

C - Oil Filter - cover gasket or base gasket - loose oil line connections.

D - Pan gasket - bent or warped oil pan flange - stripped or loose pan bolts.

E - Front oil seal - worn or glazed - shaft worn - excessive bearing clearance.

F - Rear oil seal - same as (E)

G - Timing gear cover - defective gasket - warped or bent cover flange loose bolts.

H - Oil pan drain plug - stripped or loose drain plug threads - cracked or punctured oil pan.

I -Crankcase breather outlet -same as (J)

K - Rear cam shaft welch plugs - Rough or bent sealing surface.

L - Intake manifold end seals.

M - Valley cover gasket.

N -Defective PCV valve.

NOTE: Whenever possible the vehicle should be raised on a car lift to check for external leaks, generally fresh oil wash will indicate the point of the leak. Don't take for granted there are no external leaks.

EXAMPLE: An engine leaking one drop of oil every nine feet will leak a quart of oil in approximately 29 miles, or one drop of oil in 450 feet will leak a quart of oil in approximately 1450 miles.
