LOW OIL PRESSURE ON 4-152 196, V-266, 304 and 345 INTERNATIONAL ENGINES Back

Low oil pressure on 4-152, 196, V-266, 304 and 345 International engines could be caused by the use of oil filter base gasket, International part # 860 363-R4 on early crankcases in the above listed engines.

To eliminate this condition, the 1/4" oil return hole in the crankcase filter mounting pad must be sealed off.

Plug the 1/4" oil return hole as follows:

a. Tap 1/4" hole using a 5/16" N. C. tap to accept a plug. This 1/4" hole is a return drain to the oil pan. Cuttings made in tapping can be controlled and do not enter oiling system of the engine.

b. Make a plug by cutting off the end of a 5 16" N. C. cap screw 1/4" long.

c. Saw a slot across the end of the plug so it can be screwed into the crankcase with a screwdriver to have a flush or slightly below flush installation.

d. Do not tap the hole too deep, as the plug must be a tight fit when in place.

e. A sealer on the threads should be used when the plug is installed. Also, center punch the plug to lock it in place, as it will never need to be removed.
